myCARE Stomach Ulcer Health Care Test

Description

The stomach mucus protects the inner wall of stomach and duodenum from the stomach acid. A disturbed protective function can lead to infections of the gastric mucosa (gastritis) and to a development of ulcers.

The main reason for such complaints is an infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. An infection with Helicobacter pylori increases the risk of developing stomach cancer.

An infection does not necessarily cause any symptoms. This mainly depends on the degree of infection as well as the general health and nutritional condition. In most cases, an infection can be successfully treated by a combination therapy of antibiotics and acid inhibitors.

With this test, an infection with Helicobacter pylori can be detected safely and easily.

FAQs

Why is this test important to me?
According to estimations, half of the world's population today is infected by the stomach bacterium Helicobacter pylori. In the long-term the infection causes damage to the mucous membrane of the stomach and ulcers in 10% of cases. Infected have an increased risk of developing stomach cancer.
How is the test performed?
By using the lancet, one drop of blood has to be taken and placed on the test field. The buffer solution has to be added after 30 seconds. A positive or negative result can be evaluated after 10 minutes.
What does the result tell you?
Two lines indicate a positive result for a Helicobacter pylori infection. A doctor has to be consulted as soon as possible for clearification and treatment.
Why is treatment so important?
The stomach bacterium Helicobacter pylori is the main cause of stomach tumours and ulcers. However, there is no cause for undue worries because of a positive result and the doctor confirms the result. Specific antibiotic treatment and acid inhibitors can be prescribed for about a week.
How high is the risk of a Helicobacter pylori infection?
It is not certain how the Helicobacter pylori infection is transmitted. This often happens orally from mother to child. Transmissions occur more rarely with age; poor hygiene promotes the spread of the infection. Infections may remain unnoticed for years. A successful treatment of one episode does not guarantee a life free from stomach complaints. This test can indicate a significant risk factor for the development of stomach ulcers or stomach cancer, and enables to target the disease with effective therapy.
